Unlike other sports, hockey keeps track of wins, losses, ties, and overtime losses - all displayed in your teams record. For example, if you team's record is 10-8-3-1, it means you have 10 wins, 8 losses, 3 ties, and 1 overtime loss. Standings are based on the total amount of points each team has accumulated. Teams are awarded 2 points for each win, 1 point for each tie, 1 point for each overtime loss, and 0 points for each regulation loss. If there are ties in the standings, see the tie-breaking rules here.
